Let’s Discuss 6 Types of Verbs
1. Linking Verb
Linking Verbs are a special class of verbs that do not describe action. Instead, they link the subject of the verb to its complement.
For Examples:
(To Be)
Is, am, are, was, were, been.
(State of being)
Feel, look, touch, smell, etc.
(Five Senses)
Appear, seem, grow, remain, stay etc.
Iam excellent at cricket and baseball.
She looks beautiful.
I felt tired after the long journey.
I became angry.
The diamond appeared to be genuine.
Iam a teacher.
That sounds a good idea.
Sana grows prettier every day.
She seems happy.
2. Stative Verb
This type of verbs describe a state, not an action.
These Verbs are not used in present continuous.
Stative verbs related to feeling.
Some verbs can be both stative and dynamic.
For Examples:
Like, dislike, hate, love, prefer, want, mind, need etc.
I like your hairstyle.
She dislikes me so much.
I love you
I hate fake people.
Hifza wants a car.
I need your help.
I don’t mind at all.
3. Transitive Verb
Transitive verbs take an object in a sentence.
For Example:
The students wrote an essay.
Here “Essay” is a object.
4. Intransitive Verb
Intransitive verbs do not take an object in a sentence.
For Example:
Bilawal sings in the morning.
Here, there is no object in a sentence as it is undefined to what Bilawal sings in the morning. It is Song or something else.
5. Regular Verb
They form past tense and past participle by adding “-ed”
Mehtab walked to the store yesterday.
Walk -walked -walked
6. Irregular Verb
They form past tense and past participle irregularly.
For Example:
I ate breakfast this morning.
Eat- ate, eaten
Go- went- gone
Write- wrote- written
All forms are in a irregular way.
