Asked Linguistics Terminologies 

 1. Minimal Pair

Minimal pair, it means pair of words from same language, differ only single sound. Main aim of minimal pair is to identify speaker.

Example: Pin and Bin

Above example differ by single sound.

2. Allophones

It is a kind of phoneme. Allophone change its sound on the bases of words spellings.

Example:
Tar: Sound like more forceful
Two: Sound like less forceful

           3. Dialect

Remember the word “Social”

it is a form of language spoken in an area. Means a social area like a town or village or a small side where a group of people live and speak.

The way of speaking is Dialect.

4. Idiolect

Remember the word “Individual”.

Idiolect, the way particular person use the language.

Dialect: How language is spoken in social
Idiolect: How language is spoken in particular or individual.

5. Accent

It is  pronunciation of the Sound.

6. Isogloss

It is a line on map which separate places on the basis of language features.

It is a line which is marked to represent that language or form of words are different.

7. Place of Articulation

From where sound is produced. Bilabial, Labiodental, Interdental, Alveolar, Palatal, Velar and Glottal, are the basic organs in speech production.

8. Manner of Articulation

How a sound is produced.

Voiced, voiceless, Aspirated, Unaspirated, Nasal, Oral, Stop, Fricative, Africative, Liquid and Glides, are used in manner of Articulation.

Place v/s Manner of Articulation

Place of Articulation focus on  sound places from where sound is produced. Manner of Articulation focus on how sound is produced.
